Bud's World (5/4/08)
Bud was experiencing a very tough time in his life. He felt his faith slipping and was desperate. He pulled out his Bible and decided to randomly open it up to get a word from God. So he flipped pages and stopped at Matthew 27:5, which says, “Judas went out and hanged himself.” He thought he'd try it again and Luke 10:37 came up, where Jesus said, “Go and do thou likewise.” So he quickly flipped to another verse and landed on John 13:27, which says, “What you are about to do, do quickly.”
Now you know how Bud became a church musician.
I was just wondering…
If a fly lost its wings, would it then be called a “walk?”
Have you ever imagined a world with no hypothetical situations?
When sign makers go on strike is there anything written on their signs?
Bud’s Bass Humor

The symphony orchestra was performing Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. In the piece, there's a long passage, about 20 minutes, during which the bass violinists have nothing to do. Rather than sit around that whole time looking stupid, some bassists decided to sneak offstage and go to the tavern next door for a quick one.
After slamming several beers in quick succession, one of them looked at his watch and said, “Hey! We need to get back!” “No need to panic,” said a fellow bassist. “I thought we might need some extra time, so I tied the last few pages of the conductor's score together with string. It'll take him a few minutes to get it untangled.” A few moments later they staggered back to the concert hall and took their places in the orchestra.
About this time, a member of the audience noticed the conductor seemed a bit edgy and mentioned it to her companion. “Well, of course,” said her companion. “Don't you see? It's the bottom of the Ninth, the score is tied, and the bassists are loaded.”
Wit or Wisdom?
“Too many people miss the silver lining because they're expecting gold.”
“No matter how cynical you become, it's never enough to keep up.”
“In Hollywood a marriage is a success if it outlasts milk.”

The Pope lands at an airport just in time to get to an important meeting. His limo driver speedily takes off, but the Pope needs him to go faster in order to get to his meeting on time. The Pope asks the driver to switch places so the Pope can drive.

They speedily take off again, but unfortunately, the speeding car is stopped by a cop.
The police officer takes one look at the situation and radios in to police headquarters. He tells the chief that he's got a pretty important person on his hands.
The police chief asked, "Is he more important than the mayor?"
The cop said, "Yes."
Then the chief asked, "Is he more important than the governor?" The cop said, "Yes."
Then the chief asked, "Is he more important than the President?" The cop said, "Yes."
Finally, the chief asked, "How important can he be?"
The cop said, "I don't know, but he's got the Pope for a driver."

Joke & an invitation
called one of His angels and sent the angel to Earth for a time. When he returned, he told God, "Yes, it is bad on Earth; 95% are misbehaving and only 5% are not."God thought for a moment and said, "Maybe I had better send down a second angel to get another opinion." So God called another angel and sent him to Earth for a time.
When the angel returned, he went to God and said, "Yes, it's true. The Earth is in decline; 95% are misbehaving, but 5% are being good."
God was not pleased. So He decided to e-mail the 5% that were good, because he wanted to encourage them, and give them a little something to help them keep going.
Do you know what the e-mail said?
Okay, I was just wondering, because I didn't get one either.

Rehearsals
The patriotic musical 'Our Flag Was still There' has arrived in Sheridan! It came via UPS yesterday (to the wrong address). It will take me a few days to organize the books & PracticeTrax.I would like to have an unveiling on Sunday, 4/13/08 at 7:00 pm at The Sheridan United Methodist Church. A time we can relax and watch the entire video. This is a time to invite prospective singers to join us. My goal is to have 100 singers, but a minimum of 75!

New words for "mature" singers of an old kid's song
Jesus loves me, this I know,
Though my hair is white as snow,
Though my sight is growing dim,
Still He bids me trust in Him.
(CHORUS)
YES, JESUS LOVES ME... YES, JESUS LOVES ME...
YES, JESUS LOVES ME, FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO.
Though my steps are oh, so slow,
With my hand in His I'll go
On through life, let come what may,
He'll be there to lead the way.
(CHORUS)
When the nights are dark and long,
In my heart He puts a song.
Telling me in words so clear,
"Have no fear, for I am near."
(CHORUS)
When my work on earth is done,
And life's victories have been won.
He will take me home above,
Then I'll understand His love.
(CHORUS)
I love Jesus, does He know?
Have I ever told Him so?
Jesus loves to hear me say,
That I love Him every day.

Thought of the Day
returning to harbor, the captain was asked, "How did that terrible storm last night affect you?" Surprised, the captain exclaimed, "Storm? We didn't even know there was one!" Their submarine had been so far beneath the surface that it had reached what sailors refer to as "the cushion of the sea"--a depth in the ocean where the waters below are never stirred despite any commotion on the surface. In our fast-paced world, it is a challenge to slow down and remember that God is
in control. We are a society of "do-everything," "go-everywhere," "get-it-done" people who mistakenly believe we can handle everything if we just keep going. In reality, we need to become so submerged in God's peace that no matter what's happening in our lives, we are able to remain as calm as "the cushion of the sea."Monday, March 31, 2008

History of the Hymns
‘Depth of Mercy’ (1740) pg. 355
Words by Charles Wesley (1707 - 1788)
Music by: Orlando Gibbons (1583 - 1625)
An actress in a town in England, while passing along the street, heard singing in a house. Out of curiosity she looked in through the open door and saw a number of people sitting together singing this hymn. She listened to the song, and afterwards she heard a simple but earnest prayer. When she finally left, the hymn had so impressed her that she procured a copy of a book containing it. Reading and re-reading the hymn led her to give her heart to God and she resolved to leave the stage. The manager of the theater pleaded with her to continue to take the leading part in a play which she had made famous in other cities, and finally he persuaded her to appear at the theater. As the curtain rose the orchestra began to play the accompaniment to the song which she was expected to sing. She stood like one lost in thought, and the band, supposing her embarrassed or lost, played the prelude over a second and a third time. Then with clasped hands she stepped forward and sang with deep emotion:
“Depth of mercy, can there be Mercy still reserved for me?”
This put a sudden stop to the performance; most were impressed, though many scoffed. The change in her life was as permanent as it was singular. Soon after she became the wife of a minister.
Meanwhile…1740…268 years ago…in the United States…

Fort Niagara is in existence and known as “The Castle”
Mostly French trappers and Native Americans inhabit our region. France had control of the area as a colony. The English colonies along the eastern seaboard are still developing but are claiming all land due west of them, even across the mountains. As English trappers and traders move into the French territory and compete, tensions grow. The French try to convince the Native American tribes that the English will take away their hunting grounds and thereby make allies of most of them.

From the Choir Loft
The chorus did a great job performing the Easter cantata: ‘I’ve Seen Jesus.’ Our chorus presented this beautiful piece in Sheridan and in Cattaraugus, NY. Just think of it! We have been in constant rehearsals since the beginning of September, when we began rehearsing for Christmas. And as soon as we complete our Easter season (April 6 at Holy Trinity R.C. church in Dunkirk), we will begin rehearsals for our patriotic presentation. We could use you. Singing or non-singing help is desperately needed. Please contact Bud (716) 934-7734.
